Before I started writing for children I was a journalist, which made me very good at writing for deadlines, but also very nosey about why people do the things they do.

I don't have any pets because my wife is allergic to animal hair, but if I did I'd have cockapoo called Scruffles. Or a kangerdile called Snippy.

I live in a small town in England called Dorking. It's not quite as rude as it sounds.

When I was much, much younger, I spent a year working in Tanzanian schools and learned that the word "plop" is funny anywhere in the world.

The first chapter book I ever read for myself was "The Worst Witch" by Jill Murphy. I was seven, and very proud of myself.

The Monkeroo Escapes From The Zoo is my first published book, but I have written six more. I plan to get those published too.

When I'm not writing I like to make things out of wood. So far I've made a too-small table, a too-big toy box, a rat-splatter and a perfectly useless bowl.

My children adore the stories! They are vibrant, engaging, and full of imagination.
